The terrorist attacks that occurred on this day killed almost 3,000 people, injured over 6,000 more and caused more than $10 billion worth of damage to the U.S. However, this day is also remembered for the heroes who rushed forward to risk their lives to save fellow Americans. Bound together by tragedy, Americans rallied together building a strong sense of patriotism and determination to end terrorism. Always Remember

Recommended for middle school students, with a Lexile reading level of 1010, this activity includes five pages of photographs with informational text. Students are introduced to the tragedies that occurred on Sept. 11, 2001, but they also get a better understanding of the heroes that were made that day, and the strong unity Americans felt during this time of crisis. Seven multiple choice and three extended response items assess reading comprehension while strengthening writing skills.
